labpicTirthankar Mitra

tmitra@mie.utoronto.ca

Tirthankar received his B.Sc in Chemistry from University of Calcutta (Presidency College), India in 2012. After that, he joined Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India for his Masters and secured the first position in his class in Masters. During his Masters, he worked on reaction mechanisms involved in coal pyrolysis using different instruments like TGA, GC-MS, SEM-EDAX, TGA+FTIR, DSC etc.Using thermodynamic data he studied the gas phase as well as the solid phase reactions involved during coal pyrolysis in different gases.Chemical analysis was carried out on the remains of the pyrolysis product to understand the effect of inorganic elements in pyrolysis. He also tried to find out the changes in chemical structures during pyrolysis using experimental results. He received his M.Sc in Energy in 2015. He joined the Combustion Research Lab in September 2015 to pursue his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Murray Thomson. His research involves measurement of PAHs for aromatic fuels using GC/MS. He is also developing an improved chemical mechanism which can capture the aromaticity of the fuel and give a better understanding of PAH formation for aromatic fuels. Currently, he holds MIE fellowship.

Ali Naseri

anaseri@mie.utoronto.ca

Ali received his BASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Tehran and joined CRL as a master student in September 2014. His research consists of the formation of particulates in premixed flames using detailed modeling. He is currently a Ph.D. student and holds MIE international student fellowship.

 1-250pxCarson Chu

carson.chu@utoronto.ca

Carson graduated from the University of Toronto with a BASc in Mechanical Engineering in 2011. He began his MASc in Sept 2014, with a research focus on soot formation from liquid fuel using the Laser Induced Incandescence (LII) technique.  Carson will join CRL to start his Ph.D. studies from January 2017. Before pursuing his MASc at the University of Toronto, Carson worked at Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia), responsible for mechanical design of various infrastructure projects.

Muhammad graduated from the NED University of Engineering and Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering in 2009. He served as a Lab Engineer/Lecturer at NED University for 2 years where he conducted undergraduate laboratories, delivered lectures and managed projects. He received his Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo with the specialization in Green Energy in 2013 followed by a 1 year of experience in an industry before joining the University of Toronto in Fall 2015. His current research involves component level study in the development of compression ignition engine that can be fueled with wood pyrolysis oil. Moreover, he is also looking towards reducing corrosion and erosion effects through distillation of Wood Pyrolysis Oil.
